' KLE/NFELDER
ensm..xsnmwao .
f5. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1 The conclusions and recommendations are derived from groundwater sampling activities at the
California Natural Products facility located in Lathrop, California and are based on the activities
conducted during the first quarter 2014. The following conclusions are a summary of the
notable groundwater characteristics.
5.1 CONCLUSIONS
• During the first quarter 2014, the groundwater flow direction in the vicinity of the
Plant Area was to the south, with a gradient of 0.0067 ft/ft. The groundwater flow
direction in the N/ALAIA was calculated to be towards the west, with a gradient of
0.004 ft/ft. The groundwater flow direction in the MARIA was estimated to be
towards the west. The gradient was not calculated due to the near linear orientation
1 of the wells. These findings are generally consistent with past monitoring events.
• The groundwater quality in the MARIA was generally consistent with historical
results. The TDS concentrations ranged from 810 to 1200 mg/L. The TDS
' concentrations were above the recommended SMCL (500 mg/1) in all McKinley
Avenue Area wells sampled. Nitrate as N concentrations were above the MCL (10
mg/1) in one of the three McKinley area wells (W-5).
• The groundwater quality from the N/SLAIA was also generally consistent with
' historical results. The concentrations of TDS were above the SMCL (500mg/1) in all
of the six wells. The concentration of nitrate as N was above the MCL of 10 mg/L in
Three of the six wells.
• Total and fecal coliform organisms were not detected in the nine groundwater
samples collected at the site during this quarter.
5.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
I • Kleinfelder recommends that the groundwater monitoring be continued in
accordance with RWQCB Order No. R5-2003-014.
' 101486.7/SAC14R0504 Page 10 of 13 April 28, 2014
Copyright 2014 Kleinfelder
