AGE proposed to install
two groundwater monitoring wells, one located between soil borings P-3 and P-9, and one located
approximately 50 to 75 feet south of soil boring P-6.
Due to the presence of two nearby municipal water wells, it is EHD's recommendation that two
cone penetrometer test(CPT)borings be advanced first to better characterize the hydrogeblogy
and lithology prior to the installation of the two proposed monitoring wells. To identify and
sample permeable zones most likely to accommodate migration of impacted groundwater toward
the municipal wells under their pumping influences,EHD recommends a target depth of
approximately 200 feet below surface grade(bsg)for the CPT borings. EHD recommends that
the CPT borings be advanced in the following two locations:
• One CPT boring advanced on or off-site near the municipal well located
approximately 300 feet south of this site, and
• One CPT boring advanced in the contaminated area between soil borings P-3 and P-9.
EHD also recommends the advancement of one direct-push borehole adjacent to each CPT
borehole to collect groundwater samples in each identified significant permeable water-bearing
zone to assess for dissolved phase contamination in the deeper groundwater bearing zones.
Please analyze all groundwater samples for methanol and ethanol, in addition to the analyses for
total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-G)by Environmental Protection
Agency(EPA) SW-846 method 801513; total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
diesel(TEPH-D), and total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as motor oil (TEPH-
MO)by EPA SW-846 method 801513;benzene,toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylene(BTEX),
1,2-dichloroethane(1,2-DCA), dibromoethene(EDB),tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), methyl
tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE), and
tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME)by EPA SW-846 method 826013. Please ensure the reporting
limit for 1,2-DCA is at least 0.5 micrograms per liter(µg/L) in groundwater.
