i I28 January 2004 AGE-NC Project No 97-0230 ' Page 4 of 8 31 STRATIGRAPHY Generally, very stiff to hard, less permeable, fine sandy silts and clayey silts were encountered between 5 and 10 feet bsg,between 25 and 40 feet bsg, and between 50 and 60 feet bsg Generally, medium dense to dense,unconsolidated, poorly graded, silty,fine to medium sand was encountered at all other depths Boring logs are Included in Appendix A General lithology beneath the site is ' depicted in cross-sectional views A A'and B-B' (Figures 3 and 4), respectively Saturated soil was encountered in boring P-9 at approximately 60 feet bsg I 3 2 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL ' Faint etroleum hydrocarbon odor was detected only in the duplicate soil sample collected from p boring P-8 at a depth of 5 feet bsg Petroleum hydrocarbon odor observations are noted on boring ' logs contained in Appendix A ' Organic vapor was not detected in any of the soil sample duplicates collected from borings P-8 through P-12 using a PID field instrument Organic vapor field measurements are summarized on the boring logs contained in Appendix A I 33 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES ' A total of twenty-three soil samples were submitted to a DHS-certified laboratory(Castle Analytical Laboratory) for analysis Utilizing EPA method 8015M, TPH-mo was detected in the 5-foot soil ' samples collected from borings P-8 and P-9 at concentrations of 3 1 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg) and 3 8 mg/kg, respectively TPH-g and TPH-d were not detected in the analyzed soil samples ' Utilizing EPA method 8020,the BTEX compound benzene was detected in the 15-foot soil samples collected from borings P-10 and P-12 at concentrations of 0 092 mg/kg and 0 21 mg/kg,respectively The BTEX compounds toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene were not detected in the analyzed soil ' samples Utilizing EPA method 8260, the fuel additive MTBE was detected in the 15-foot soil samples ' collected from borings P-10 and P-12 and the 25-foot soil sample collected from boring P-9 at concentrations as high as 0 14 mg/kg(P12-15) ' ' Utilizing EPA method SW6010C, ICP lead was detected in the 5-foot soil sample collected from • boring P-9 at a concentration of 50 mg/kg ' Advanced GeoEnvironntental,Inc 1
