a _
MW RA
2.0 ASSESS
In order to assess the lateral extent of the ground water
contamination associated with this site, WEGE drilled and
constructed seven more monitoring wells (see FIGURE 3A) during the
weeks February 17 thru March 3, 19sg. Concurrent with the Phase
II study, T&C began construction and remodeling of the station.
Subsequent to this second part of Phase II work and construction,
EXXON, Inc. is operating the station, dispensing regular,
unleaded, and premium unleaded gasolines.
2.2 INVESTIGATIVE MMODS
WEGE"s investigative methods consist of:
A. Exploratory borings, physical analysis of soil (during
the drilling process and in the laboratory) and monitor
well construction (placement, continuous monitoring,
etc. ) .
B., Chemical analysis of soi' and water samples analyzed by
/ a State of California Department of Health Services (DFIS)
approved laboratory (McLaren Laboratories of Rancho
Cordova, CA. ) .
C. Verbal communication with WCC, TSMC, and San Joaquin
Environmental Health personnel.
2.2 FIELD INvESTIGATION
Upon permission from the Environmental Health Division of San
Joaquin County and WdC, WEGE commenced drilling, sampling and
construction of seven monitor wells on February 16, 1989, _9
and MW-10 were drilled on site while MW-5 through MW-9 were
drilled off site to the north, south, west, and east (see FIGURE
3A).
Each boring was advanced with 10" diameter, hollow stem au-srs
powered by a truck mounted Mobile drill rig. Soil from tach
boring was logged in accordance with the Unified Soils
Classification System (see Bore Hole Logs; Appendix A) . Soil
sazlplr, . were collected by driving an 18 inch long, 2.5 inch
diame._r, California standard sampler fitted with three 2 inch
diameter, 6 inch long brass liners. The number of blows required
to advance the sampler one foot is .recorded on the Bore Hole Log
as "blows/ft.". The soil samples (contained) in the brass liners)
were sealed with aluminum foil, plastic caps, duct tape, and
placed in an insulated container with dry ice. Each sample
interval (soil sample collected) is represented in the DEPTH
column of the Bore Hole Log. Drilling spoils (cuttings) were
LP
