10/19/95
Unit running on arrival . Adjust unit System set at Oo air
(, dilute.
I The VOC emissions have never exceeded the 52 lb/day emission
limit for the site No evidence of Tetrachloroethene (PCE) was
found during examination of the chromatograms of the samples
taken to the WEGE laboratory
VAPOR SAMPLING
COLLECTING LABORATORY SAMPLES
Influent Sample
The influent sample is obtained from a sample port located, after
the system vacuum pump and before the REMOX Unit . Sterile poly
tubing is then used to attach a 1 liter tedlar bag, fitted with a
special septum "valve" and tubing bib, to the sample port The
sample port is on the pressure side of the pump and therefore the
bag will fill without need of a pump Once the tedlar bag is
filled, its valve is closed and locked, the appropriate label is
placed on the tedlar bag
Effluent Sample
A sample port for the effluent is located in the exhaust stack of
the Remox system The flow pressure from the exhaust is great
enough to fill a tedlar bag Sterile poly tubing is fitted to
the exhaust port and the tedlar bag Then the sample valve of
the tedlar bag is opened and the bag is filled with the sample
Once the tedlar bag is full, the valve is closed and locked, the
sample port closed, and the appropriate label is placed on the
bag
The labels for both the influent and effluent tedlar bag samples
show the date, time, sample ID# and analyses to be run
Both the influent and effluent tedlar bag samples are then placed
within a cooler, on ice, and are hand delivered to WEGE' s
laboratory that same day
The vapor sample is then infected into an FID (Flame Ionizing
Detector) chromatograph and the resulting chromatogram compared
to standard chromatograms of known TFH (Total Fuel Hydrocarbons,
gasoline) and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes)
concentrations . A dual chromatograph comparison is also run
(Photovac 10S50) to evaluate BTEX, TCE, PCE, and DCE
FLOW RATES
Flow rates are measured at the site by using orifice plates . A
one inch orifice is placed in line for each well and a three inch
2 Regal 503 , 1.0/24/95
