REG 603 UPDATE-9 9/14/92
,r I1
i
i { E
rl n I
REMOX unit , using monitor wells MW1 , MW10 , and the excavation
wells . The system was restarted on October 17 , 1991 for the
i' initial inspection and operation of the system. The unit operated
until November 5 , 1991 , when it was shut down to replace a worn
i
41 bearing. The system was restarted after the repairs on November
20 , 1991 and operated untz.l December 24 , 1991 . On this date
someone turned off the main breaker that services the treatment
II compound. This breaker box has since been locked. The unit was
restarted on January 3 , 1992 and operated until July 20 , 1992 ,
fi with occasional auto shut downs due to high temperature ( 1550-F)
in the pre-oxidation chamber. On July 20 , 1992 , the heat
exchanger malfunctioned and the incenerator shut down due to low
temperature. The unit remained off until it was replaced on
August 18 , 1992 with a new unit.
At the present ( September 3 , 1992 ) the REMOX units have operated
for a total of 4201 .5 hours out of a total of 11225 .5 hours
( 37 . 40 ) . The new replacement unit has operated 199 .5 hours out of
377 hours (52 . 90 ) , removing and destroying 27554 pounds of
gasoline range hydrocarbons for an average of 6 . 6 pounds per hour .
Since replacing the unit on August 18 , 1992 , the REMOX has
removed/destroyed 1715 pounds or 8 . 6 pounds per hour, see Tables 2
• and 3 and Appendix B-Air Monitoring Reports .
Condensate from vapor extraction is being collected in moisture
drop out tanks constructed of 12" PVC pipe, prior to the manifold,
to prevent moisture build up on the vacuum pump filter . All
fluids removed from the condensate traps are placed into the 1000
gallon "ConVault" within the treatment compound. As of September
31, 1992 , a total of 10 . 27 gallons of product and 51 .59 gallons of
i water have been removed from the condensate traps ; 0 . 06 gallons
product and 18 . 73 gallons water from EX41' , 3 . 98 gallons product
and 13 .13 gallons water from MW-10 , and 6 . 23 gallons product and
21 .73 gallons water from MW2/3 . No fluids have collected in the
MW-1 condensate trap.
As of September 3 , 1992 , a total of 4459. 12 gallons of gasoline
range hydrocarbons have been removed from the soil and ground
} r water beneath this site with the condensate traps recovery,
i combined with previously removed floating product ( 40 . 25 gallons )
t and vapor extraction-destruction of hydrocarbons ( 27554
pounds/6 . 25 = 4408 . 6 gallons ) . No chlorinated solvents have been
detected in chromatogram comparisons ; ie . 1 ,2 ,-Dichloroethane
it (DCE) - retention time 2 . 079 minutes , Trichloroethylene (TGE) -
retention time 3 .023 minutes and Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) -
  ,' retention time 3 . 75 minutes .
i
I PAGE 8
f
