Ms. Diane Hinson - 2 - 3 October 1989
obtained from the sewering agency. If the water is discharged to the
storm sewer, permission must be obtained from the Regional Water Quality
Control Board, and permits may also be required from any other local
entity with jurisdiction over the storm sewer system or it's effluent.
Monitoring well MW-5 is proposed as a conductor cased well designed to
evaluate water quality in the deeper aquifer. The anticipated depth and
thickness of this unit are not stated. If any information is available
concerning the deeper aquifer it should be included in the proposal .
Some rational should also be given for locating this well outside the
shallow zone plume. If investigation of the deeper zone is deemed
appropriate it would seem more logical to conduct this investigation
closer to the source area. A great deal of caution should be taken to
assure that the conductor casing is used correctly.—
The operator should proceed with the additional round of ground water
sampling, and provide any necessary modifications to the work plan. If
the verification samples indicate that the contamination is
significantly different than that indicated by the initial sampling, the
work plan is to be modified to include any additional wells necessary
for adequate plume definition. The work plan should not focus solely on
finding the "zero line" but should also be designed to give better
definition of the levels of contamination within the plume so that an
appropriate remediation plan can be developed.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5731.
r" A
THOMAS D.
