Monitoring Wells - Three monitoring wells will be installed into the first water
strata to determine Its hydraulic gradient and evaluate groundwater
conteminatton, The proposed location of each monitoring well Is shown on the
enclosed site map. The monitoring wells will be constructed and sampled as
described In the proposed work plan dated March 25, 1988,
2. Sample Screening - Of the soil samples collected euring&filing, certain
samples will be selected for analysis. The goal of this selective process is to
- reduce the project's cast without compromising its quality, Field observations
noting sediment type(especially grain size and clay content),moisture content.
visible evidenceof contamination Ox.,color change due to reduction of iron or
discoloration from hydrocarbons and other pollutants),and the presence of
contamination odor will be used toseleci samples for analysis. A representativ3
sample from each IIthe logy will be analyzed. ATso a sample wilt be collected and
analyzed from 10 to 15 feet below the last observable contominatton, Thisshould
insure a zero-contaminatlon sample is collected.
3. SamploAnalysls - Soft samplesshall be analyzed for both total extractable
hydrocarbons(diesel, kerosene, and motor oft)and total volatile hydrocarbons
(gasollneandaromatlehydrocarbons), Analytical fees for this Comb fned analysis
is$300 per sample of either water or soil.
