ry y A
_ wh
' ALTON
[ , ENGINEERING
April 25, 1988
Desert Petroleum, Inc.
P.O. Box 1601
Oxnard, CA 93032
Re: Station #787
959 11th St.
Tracy, CA 95376
Attention: Mr. John Rutherford
Ebvirorunental Dept.
This letter is in regards to our conversation on Apri3'22, 1988,
as to the Environmental Assessment concerning the above
referenced station, located in Tracy, CA. Walton Engineering •
will be contracted, inconjunction with Western Geo-Engineers to
perform the first phase of evaluation being' requested by the San
Joaquin County, Environmental Health Department.
It is our understanding that contamination was discovered on
April 20, 1988, after the.tbree (3) gasoline product tanks were
excavated and removed Soil and Groundwater.mples were taken
in the tank hole area, which revealed dissolved gasoline
constituents in the water. It is not knomat this time whether ,
the water encountered at 15'-0" feet is,a perch table or a large;'
} volume aquifer. Further assessment must be made to determine the
s characterization of this underlying contamination beneath this.
- property.
Walton Engineering proposes to evaluate .this site on a step phase
Approach.
Phase 1: Desert Petroleem will begin pumping water from the open
tank hole through a well installed.at the corner of the
excavation. By doing this operation it will determine what the ,
rechargecapabilities are.on the tank hole well: . After a period
of time water well samples will be field screened to see if
dissolvedproduct:still exists. If field screen method shows '
clean, samples will be obtained for certified lab analysis. Our
next operation will be to obtain monitoring well permits from San
Joaquin county, Environmental Health Dept., and to schedule the 1.
placement of. (3) three monitoring wells on the site.(See
- - - attachment-A, Wege )-- ---- ------ --- - - -- - - - -
It is our opinion that the monitoring wells are necessary to
determine if,-product recovery through the. tank hole well is
making an effect on the out areas surrounding the excavation.
Also by installing the wells it will allow on going monitoring of
water gradients and periodic sampling, to show an effects on the
site.
,. _ _ R7%Rieke Lnnc•_W,s[Sormm,mti CA 95191 1911,1 379•INRH - -
