Landa Turkette, REHS
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
April 5, 1993
Page 3
continue to completion, absent plowing up the area and causing potential
spreading of the contaminants due to disturbance of same.
In view of the proven stability of the low level contamination zone, the natural remediation
taking place, the predictable endpoint of the problem, and the absence of existing or
potential damage from the VOCs, and in keeping with our mutual concern for the
preservation of the Tracy well's potable water standards, I suggest that we test the boundary
wells MW-1 and MW-3 quarterly and the balance of the wells MW-2 and MW-4 annually
to further verify the VOCs total isolation to the BC&D site.
We have interviewed the previous owner of the property with respect to the alleged tank
that was encountered during the 1987 investigations. He indicated that only three (3) tanks
existed on site (he installed same) and that we had removed same. As-built drawings of the
fueling systems are nonexistent; therefore we are operating on verbal recollection of events
which are not quite precise. We will take steps to probe the area to determine if the
drilling encountered a tank or other uncharted debris that often occupies building sites.
Should a tank be determined to exist, proper procedures will be followed to extract and
dispose of same (as was the case with the former three tanks).
Pursuant to your request, by copy of this letter to Geological Technics, I am requesting a
copy of the soil boring report and laboratory documentation to be forwarded directly to you,
which was to be included as a portion of the MW-4 installation report. I am certain that
it was an oversight.
We appreciate your assistance in this effort and look forward to completion of the work in
a prudent, reasonable, cost-effective manner with the least possible disturbance of the
environment, community, and the owner's ongoing business operations.
cerel
Robert J. Buric
Agent for Owners
cc: BC&D Files
Ben Curran
Ray Kablanow/Geological Technics, Inc.
