The following
comments are based on all of the information submitted to PHS/EHD
to date.
The "Property Evaluation Report" dated November 27, 1987
documents the drilling of several soil borings and the completion
of three monitoring wells at the site. Soil samples, from 12
feet below ground surface (BGS) from five of the soil borings,
were submitted to a laboratory for analysis. The soil plume
definition presented in this report was based on these results.
As mentioned in the report, this contamination is most likely a
result of the interaction of the contaminated groundwater at the
groundwater-soil interface and not from the migration of
contaminants from the soils above. No sail samples were obtained
from the shallow soils in and around the area of the former
underground tanks. Any residual soil contamination in this area
may continue to impact the groundwater at the site and must be
identified.
The report also mentions the discovery of an underground tank
while drilling soil boring #7. The presence or absence of this
tank needs to be established, and if a tank is present, actions
must be taken for its proper removal under permit and guidance
from this office.
Although, with the recent addition of monitoring well 14, the
zero lines of the groundwater contaminant plume have been
established, the current physical contaminant plume distribution
in the groundwater still needs to be determined for this site.
A DMWW C(Sol)0Npft Comm'Hed2h Care SavM.+es
