May 14, 1990
Project 310-01.02
Page 3
of interbedded clay, silt, sand, and gravel. Groundwater-:-flow
direction beneath the site is anticipated. to be northeasterly;
based on the regional groundwater flow direction and regional
topography.
WELL SURVEY
A water supply well survey was conducted through the Department
of Water Resources (DWR) to identify known water supply wells
located within a one-half mile radius of the site. A total of
nine"water- supply :wells were located withinthe one-half mile
radius., and are summarized on Table 1. The wells are used for
domestic and agricultural purposes. An additional three wells
were identified that may be located within the ane-half mile 3
radius, however the DWR records do not indicate the precise
location. These three wells are used for domestic purposes.
The well closest to the site for which PACIFIC has a location is
designated Well G on Figure 1. This well is located {
approximately 600 feet southeast of the site and is used for
domestic purposes.
{
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
Due to the petroleum hydrocarbons noted in the soil sample
collected from beneath the former transmission fluid tank,
PACIFIC !initially. proposes.the:installation `of three'groundwater
monitoring wells,-to investigate the•vertical'and'lateral'.extent
of_hydrocarbons •in: the,:soil:.and .groundwater: The proposed well
locations are shown- on Figure 2.
One well is to be placed immediately adjacent to the former tank
! excavation to document soil and groundwater conditions adjacent
to and beneath the former tank location. This well is proposed
in the area of detected hydrocarbons. The two other proposed
wells will be placed downgradient (inferred northerly gradient)
of the former tank location to characterize downgradient
groundwater conditions as well as assist in estimating the
lateral extent of .hydrocarbons in the soil. ]Exploratory
drilling and monitoring well installation procedures are
presented in Attachment A.
Laboratory Analysis
------ --All-groundwater_.samples__and_sele.cte.. l_samples will be_..._...__...
analyzed in. a state certified laboratory for low bol -
— ------
hydrocarbons (calculated as gasoline) including benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes, and high-boiling
t-- hydrocarbons as transmission fluid, diesel, and oil.
Attachment B presents the analytical methods and typical
detection limits.
IT .
