ATTACHMENT D <br /> Findings for Alternatives to the Proposed Project <br /> The basic objectives of the project: proposal are to: <br /> 1) Serve traffic generated by existing and anticipated industrial development in <br /> the vicinity of the Arch-Sperry corridor <br /> 2) Better link the Interstate 5 and State Route 99 arterials with the Stockton <br /> Metropolitan Airport <br /> 3} Improve east-west circulation between Interstate 5 and State Route 99, and <br /> 4) Improve overall traffic.circulation within the South Stockton Planning Area. <br /> A key criterion used by the City of Stockton to define needed street <br /> improvements is the achievement of at least a bevel of Service D at the project <br /> i <br /> intersections. it is not an objective of the project to implement all of the varied <br /> components of the comprehensive transportation system envisioned in the General <br /> ed <br /> Plan .and Regional Transportation Plan. The project oflana is one of a series p <br /> actions:to, implement the City.street improvement element of the system. It is an <br /> • essential component of,the overall transportation system that is planned to be'balanced <br /> withsignificantstreet, transit and state highway improvements 'Together, the different <br /> ,+elements of the s stem are tanned to provide efficient movement of people and`goods, <br /> =s_and contribute to environmental,goals m <br /> A number of alternatives.potentially able to meet the basic project objectives <br /> have been considered. The alternatives fall into three general categories: alternative <br /> transportation modes, alternative roadway design and no project. The following <br /> provides a brief overview of the alternatives and the reasons they were rejected in favor <br /> of the proposed project:.
