Representing two thirds of all <br /> pilots in the 1.United States, AUPA is the.largest civil aviation organization in the world. — <br /> AOPA wishes to reiterate our opposition to the above named project, We, wrote to the San <br /> Joaquin County Planning Office earlier this year outlining our concerns with the expansion of the <br /> .Forward Landfill southeast of the Stockton Metropolitan Airport (SCK)during.the scoping <br /> process fpr the Drat3 Environmctntal Impact Report(DFIR) and again in response to the <br /> publication of the DHIR. We are enclosing both letters for your information. - <br /> Our primary concerns are that the expansion will have negative impacts on the airport by <br /> creating all obstruction resulting in adverse action against the airport by raising instrument _ <br /> approach minimums acid/or further displacing the threshold of Runway 29; Additionally, the <br /> -expansion of the,landfill may increase the number of bird strikes by creating a greater attractant <br /> and one that is significantly closer to aircraft approaching and departing•Runway I I L129R at <br /> SCK. <br /> As the airport's sponsor and since the'airport is Federally fundod, tho County is rdquired by the — <br /> FAA under the terns of the grant assurances to ensure,that terminal airspace"will be adequately <br /> cleared c'h'id protected by-removing, lowering,`relocating, marking, or lighting or otherwise <br /> mitigating existing airport hazards and by preventing the establishment or creation of future — <br /> airport hazards.'
