Draft Environmental Impact Report Page I11-5
P P g
Forward Inc. Landfill Expansion
There are four entrances to the site from Austin Road. The main entrance to the existing
Forward Landfill is a 50-foot-wide gravel road located approximately midway along the eastern
boundary of the site. A second entrance area is located in the northeast corner of the property
and is used to access the northern portion of the landfill (the former Austin Road Sanitary
Landfill). The entrance to the transfer station/materials recovery facility is located south of the
South Branch of the South Fork of Littlejohns Creek. A 15-foot wide gravel access road is
located directly north of the South Branch.
The entire area of the existing Forward Landfill is 567 acres (including easements). The various
sub-areas of the site and their approximate acreage are summarized on Table III.0-1, and shown
in Figures III.0-2 and III.0-3. Landfill operations are currently being conducted on an
( approximately 355-acre refuse disposal "footprint" area. The 388 total acres of landfill disposal
l area identified in Table III.0-1 include both existing and future permitted waste management
units.
The terrain at the existing landfill and surrounding vicinity consists of a level plain with
prominent landfill mounds. The North Branch of the South Fork of Littlejohns Creek flows
along the northern and northwestern boundaries of the project site.' The South Branch of the
F,
South Fork of Littlejohns Creek traverses the southeast portion of the proposed project site.
Both of these creeks generally flow from east to west. Original ground surface elevations range
from 30 to 40 feet above mean sea level (MSL). The site is permitted to reach a maximum
i elevation of 210 feet MSL.
Table III.0-1
SUMMARY OF EXISTING SITE SUB-AREAS
i
Area j
Location (acres)
A.Permitted Landfill Disposal Area (including access roads and 388
offsets from property lines and creeks)
j B.
