Ground Water Solin <br /> � 9 <br /> Water Sample: <br /> Materials Needed: Water Sample Containers, Felt Tip Permanent Marker, <br /> Ball Point Pen, Labels for Water Bottles, Chain of Custody Form, Ice <br /> Chest with Ice <br /> r-, Procedure: <br /> 1. Identify the location of wells that will be sampled and which <br /> types of tests will be taken from each location. <br /> 2. Go to the site and turn on the well. <br /> 3. Allow the water to run for 3 to 5 minutes in order to purge the <br /> water, that was in the casing. <br /> .4. Label each container that will be used for that location. <br /> Unpreserved Containers (No pill or powder) <br /> 1. Rinse the container with the water to be sampled, dump <br /> this rinse water. <br /> 2. Fill the sample container to as close to the brim as <br /> possible. <br /> 3. Close the lid and put the sample into the ice chest. <br /> Preserved Containers (Pill or powder in bottle) <br /> 1. Make sure that the water that was in the well casing has <br /> been purged. <br /> 2. Fill the sample container to as full as possible. <br /> 3. Close.the lid and put the sample into the ice chest. <br /> For VOA vials- <br /> �i 1. Ensure that the water that was in the well casing has <br /> been purged. <br /> 2. Fill the sample container to a level over the brim and cap. <br /> + Ensure there are no air bubbles. <br /> 3. Close the lid and put the sample into the ice chest. <br /> For Sterile Containers (Coliform/Potability) <br /> 1. Turn water fully on, then fully off, TEN times rapidly. <br /> 2. Run the water full blast for 3 to 5 minutes. <br /> '^ 3. Reduce flow, to avoid splashing while filling container, <br /> run for 2 minutes. <br /> 4. Fill container to fill line (100 ml), close container and put <br /> in ice <br /> chest. <br /> Irrigation wells will be tested for Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, <br /> ' Chloride, Electrical Conductivity, Sulfate, Nitrate, pH, Carbonate, <br /> Bicarbonate, Phosphorus, Potassium, Boron, Total Dissolved <br /> Solids (calculated), and Adjusted SAR. <br /> Domestic wells will be tested for total and fecal Coliform, Calcium, <br /> Magnesium, pH, Total Hardness, Electrical Conductivity, Total <br /> 4 Dissolved Solids (calculated), and Nitrate. <br /> Ground Water Sampling Procedures <br /> Appendix 3 <br />
