Lab No. 32147
-2-
Included
2-Included is the data from an experiimnt we ran to explain the low NO3 values.
Each sample was spiked with enough NO3 to raise its NO3 level 89 mg/L.
The samples were left in close jars at room temperature for 3 days.
At the end of that tire, the sarples were analyzed to determine the NO3
i concentration.
In addition, I ran TYN tests on the original samples and the final spiked
samples after 3 days to determine if any of the NO3 had been converted to
NH3 or Organic N. (only samples -1, -2 were run)
Sanple 3 did not exhibit NO3 decrease different from the control. Since this
was the only sample that did[ not exhibit a strong "septic odor" it can be
surmised that some unknown factor rendered any organisms present incapable of
NO3 utilization.
1
Conclusions 1403 is being both destroyed and: incorporated into septic biamass.
Together this would probably account for low NO3 levels in septic samples given
1 significant NO3 inputs.
* = Less Th6n
If there are questions, please call or write.
very truly yours,
Q inn,' Ph.D.
Laboratory Director
J'Q:jgd
F.
t.
r
If
k
