This cross section clearly
shows the geologic units encountered in the study area.
The only hydrologic information gathered during this study that can be presented on across
section is depth to groundwater in the monitoring wells. This data was clearly presented in
summary Table 1 presented in Appendix A of the April 13, 1998 Groundwater Monitoring
k Report, and therefore available for review and use by Mr. Rowe.
All of the groundwater analytical test results were summarized in Table 2 of the April 13,
I- 1998 Groundwater Monitoring Report and the soil test results were summarized in Table I of
the December 22 1997 Soil and Groundwater Investigation Report. These tables were
I available for review and use b Mr. Rowe and clearly show the distribution of chemicals in
! i Y Y
the subsurface of this property.
An additional cross section (west to east) has been constructed and contaminant distribution
s- has been added to both. See Figures 3 & 4.
"Without vertical & lateral definition closure cannot be considered (at this time)".
It is our opinion that vertical and lateral definition has been defined at this site for the
purposes of bringing an adequate understanding of the distribution of petroleum chemicals
- and to determine if these residual chemicals pose a threat to public health and the
environment. It is an acceptable and reasonable practice to extrapolate data from one area to
another when certain conditions are met. The primary condition in question is the nature and
distribution of the subsurface geology. As these cross-section shows, the geology is
characterized by layer cake formation of geologic units, dominated by fine-grained
-= sediments. Therefore, extrapolation of data is not only sound scientific practice, but also
coast effect means of determining if the site poses a significant threat to public health or the
environment.
i
