PUBLIC HEIkLTH SERVICE ,OP4N
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION 3
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer cq 9.6 itl;P
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
April 13, 1999
Dwain C.Tosch FILE C0P
1229 Goldenoak Way
Stockton, CA 95209
RE: 28708 S. Bird Road,Tracy
In reply to your Soil Suitability Study I have some areas of concern.
1. You list the parcel map number as MS 98-29. I believe the parcel number is APN 255-020-37 and
the Minor Subdivision Application number is MS 98-29.
2. You never mention the type of soil nor the suitability of using this type of soil in septic systems,
including percolation and soil profiles.
3. You state that the Nitrate level in the well is over 45 mg/l,which is the Maximum Contaminant
Level, and you note "Nitrates-It is recommended that the Environmental Health Division determine
the necessary corrective measures needed, if any". Then you state"Septic Systems can be installed to
the density proposed and is not expected to impact groundwater nor cause other health hazards." The
ground water is already impacted beyond the level recommended by the State Of California and any
additional nitrate loading is not acceptable, if not mitigated by an alternative type septic system
designed by a civil engineer.
4. The report lacks any information relating to the effect of the proposed septic effluent on the existing
water table. It only states that there is no water for the first 10 feet.
Therefore we cannot accept this soil suitability study until all of these concerns are addressed. If you
have any questions regarding this matter, contact Johnny Yoakum, E.H.S. of my staff at(209)468-3147.
Karen Furst M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer g2Q p/
Mike ggins, Supervising RE•H•S., R.D.I
Environmental Health Division
MH.jy
A Division of San Ioaquin County Health Care Services
