Brandt Road and Linn Road and across the road from 16731 E.
Brandt Road. Our property has been owned by my mother and
Previously by her parents since the turn of the century and is very
dear to me. It is presently leased for pasture by sheep and cattle
until 1999.
We must strongly voice our opposition to this use permit for
several reasons. The first reason is that having up to 50 dogs in the
neighborhood would result in frequent barking which would be
detrimental to the value of our property. We are considering
developing that acreage for homes in a few years. If my husband and
I were to build there ourselves, I would certainly not want the noise
pollution of many dogs in my neighborhood. I know that city real
estate laws require you to list detrimental items such as even ONE
barking dog in the neighborhood.
Secondly, the present use of our land is the pasturing of sheep
and cattle by our tenant. Barking does not have a.calming influence
on animals put there to eat and gain weight. Even though the owners
of the kennel will put up fences, we know that a dog or two will find
a way to get out and it will wreak havoc with a herd of cattle or a
flock of sheep. There are frequent accounts in our newspapers in
Contra Costa county of attacks by dogs on pasturing animals.
Although it might seem that this use by a kennel would be
acceptable at the present time, one must think ahead to the future
uses. Once a permit is granted it is difficult to rescind. One must also
consider the historical use of the land in this area which has been
dry farming and pasture. Hopefully, the Development Services
Division will concur with the lead agency and refuse this use permit.
At this time, I would like to request a copy of the Development
Services Division action when it is available .
Thank you for your consideration of our viewpoint.
Sincerely,
