The existing quarry operations encompass approximately 110
acres-the original 100 acres permitted under QX-86-1 plus 10 acres permitted by administrative approval
under the provisions contained in Development Title Section 9-854.7. The proposed expansion will add
an additional area of 938 acres, for a total area under permit of 1048 acres. Of the 1048-acre total area,
the actual acreage to be excavated is 500 acres. F
Aggregate resources will be excavated up to a depth of 40 feet, with the average depth to be excavated
of approximately 25 feet. Sand and gravel deposits will be excavated by first removing all of the available
topsoil in the respective phase being worked with a Caterpillar wheel tractor-scraper. The topsoil will then
either be stockpiled for future reclamation or respread on a previously excavated area for reclamation and
revegetation. Overburden is then excavated and either stockpiled or respread for reclamation.
The applicants expect production to continue in the range of 500,000 to 1,000,000 tons per year, for a
total amount of sand and gravel to be excavated of 25,000,000 tons over a 20- to 25-year period.
Excavation will be conducted in four 5-year phases; each phase is composed of approximately)00 acres
to be excavated. Reclamation and revegetation of the site will also be phased. As excavation of Phase
1 is completed and excavation of Phase 2 begins, reclamation and revegetation of Phase 1 will
commence. All drainage from excavated areas will remain on the site.
Waste materials produced from the processing operation are limited to clay and fine silts suspended in
the process water. Process water is recycled back through a series of three recycling/settling ponds,
where clays and fine silts settle out. The water is recycled and used as process water for the plant. i
San Joaquin Count
q Y QX-94-2/KRC Aggregate
Community Development page 1
r
'i J
