INTRODUCTION
r'-
Teichert Aggregates (Teichert) is proposing to mine gravel on four parcels of land
(Bogetti, north Thoming, south Thoming, and north Raspo parcels) totaling approximately
819 acres in southwestern San Joaquin County (Figures 1 and 2). Teichert plans to phase
extraction operations so that only a portion of the site is actively mined at any time.
The property, referred to as the Lone Tree gravel extraction site, is presently used
for agriculture (primarily almond and cherry orchards) and grazing. As mining activities are
completed on-each portion of the site, the land will be reclaimed and returned to productive
agricultural uses. Those portions of the property not phased into the mining operation
' initially will continue to be farmed.
PROJECT LOCATION
The project site is located at the eastern base of the Coast Ranges, in the wash area
of Lone Tree Creek. Interstates 580 and 5 and State Highway 132 intersect near the site.
The California Aqueduct and the underground Hetch Hetchy delivery pipeline cross the
Property
L
PURPOSE OF REPORT
In October 1990, Jones & Stokes Associates completed a biological resource
inventory survey for wildlife and botanical resources (Jones & Stokes Associates 1990) at
the Lone Tree gravel extraction site.
(: With respect to botanical resources, the fall survey suggested a spring survey be
conducted to confirm the absense of caper-fruited tropidocarpum and Showy Indian cIover i
two special-status annual 'plants that could emerge in spring in annual grasslands and
wetland areas at the site. Teichert contracted with Jones & Stokes Associates to conduct
a spring survey on the four parcels slated for mining activities. Four additional special-status
plant species identified by the fall survey as potentially occurring onsite were also targeted
by the spring survey. The results and recommendations of the spring survey are presented
and discussed below.
IF
tom;
ti
Y
1
