The two
percolation test holes, were drilled using a truck mounted Deep.Rock auger, rig. The surface soils
encountered were a brown fine to medium sandy clay to a depth of 4 feet. Auger'grab samples .
indicated that below'the surface soil was sandy silt and silty sand layers extending,to,a depth of
12.feet. A brown fine tomedium sand was encountered at a depth of 12 feet and extended to the .
= total depth of the hole which was.13 feet.
Generally, the soil encountered in the boring is similar to the soils reported by the San Joaquin
County Soil Survey soil for the area(USDA, 1993).
.'A percolation test measures the permeability of the soil by observing the water drop over a period
of time which is an indicator of how much area will be required for the septic system: The water
drop was observed within the boring-by using PVC pipe and gravel. Approximately 2 inches-of,
'pea gravel"was placed in the bottom of the boring then a slotted 2-inch diameter PVC pipe was
installed on top of the gravel..Several feet of"pea gravel"was backfilled in the annular space.
Presaturation of the percolation test hole occurred on June 24; 2003. Measurement of themater
r level during the percolation test, was from.a fixed reference'point on the PVC casing using an
6'• L electric well sounder.with a depth accuracy of 11100th,foot. All values on the field data sheet are'
in decimal feet.
' c ation test was conducted for the"shallow"percolation test'on June 25 2003 and
A,4-hour per of p ,
' a 1 hour percolation test was performed within the 12.65 foot "deep"percolation test hole in
