77enterthe
LUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
the Restaurant's kitchen wastewater influent, it is imperative that no food materials
system. Every attempt should be made toscrape and capture all food, food
and grease for solid waste disposal before washing food prep and service ware,
utensils, sinks and drains. The organic, and thereby the nitrogen loading, must be reduced from
this source. This also applies to the ARCO Station; however, it is my understanding there will be
no food preparation at this facility.
There are constituents of some dishwasher cleaners, sanitizers and surfactants, and other types of
cleaners that have detrimental effects on the biology of septic tanks. These types of cleaning
chemicals are called quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), referenced as "quats" for short.
Its name may imply this chemical contains ammonium, but it does not. Quats are used in
antimicrobial disinfectants such as Lysol, and found in antibacterial soap, toilet bowl cleaners and
other disinfectants.
It is recommended the Omelet House Restaurant consult with their sanitary cleaning supplier for
the recommendation of a quat alternative, if not already done so. A potential option is a botanical
disinfectant with the trade name Benefect. This material is on the EPA registered list of
disinfectants. Peroxide sanitizers are another sanitizing option. If it appears that there is no viable
alternative, a chemical called NeutraQuat which is a QAC neutralizer, may be considered.
To efficiently assist with the anaerobic digestion of the wastes entering the septic system, it is
highly recommended that biodegradable toilet paper be used in each of the restrooms. A number
of brands are available (e.g., Scott Tissue) and sometimes are referred to as "rapid dissolve."
This concludes the design and discussion of the operational parameters for the existing Omelet
House Restaurant and proposed ARCO Service Station/ Convenience Store.
Respectfully submitted,
CHESNEY CONSULTINGti4ao c9`Che oPi o
No.75e79 p
ti
Don Che ey, P7Engeer
Registered Civil4C75479 (P CM
e of Calliot
Chesney Consulting
