SMTH
ENVIRON MENTAL TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION —
, al;
May 3, 1996
95-122-01-01
Mr. Ron Rowe
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Addendum to the "Workplan for Additional Subsurface Investigation", Fayette
Manufacturing Site, 7675 West Eleventh Street, Tracy, California
Site Code: 2233
Mr. Rowe:
Smith Environmental Technologies Corporation, on behalf of Dr. A.R. Glover, is submitting this
addendum to the "Workplan for Additional Subsurface Investigation" in response to your
comments dated March 18, 1996 regarding the workplan for the subject site. The purpose of the
additional subsurface investigation is to delineate the horizontal and vertical extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination present in the soil and groundwater on-site in the vicinity of and
downgradient from the locations of the former gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs). In
addition, the investigation is to provide soil data for determining remediation alternatives,
specifically natural attenuation. Per Dr. Glover's request, this addendum also includes the scope
of work for disposal and/or treatment of groundwater and soil currently stored on-site and also,
for one year of quarterly groundwater monitoring, sampling and report preparation.
Subsurface Investieation
Six borings will be advanced to depths of approximately 15 feet by Direct Push Technology
(DPT). Drilling will be conducted by a State-licensed (C57) drilling company. Additional borings
may be required depending upon field conditions during drilling to complete delineation of the soil
and groundwater contamination. A field geologist will be present to log all drill cuttings and soil
samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample collection intervals will be recorded
on boring logs. Soil samples will be collected at a minimum of five foot intervals and field
screened with a photo ionization detector (PID) for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In
addition soil gas samples will be collected and field screened for VOCs with a PID and for
C^eccPn* using an oxygen meter on a lower explosive limit meter (LEL). A temporary
casing will be set in the open borings to allow for the collection of a groundwater sample. One
soil and one groundwater sample from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis of
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg); benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes
(BTEX); and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). In addition, selected soil samples from
95113V.E=RS\Ladden.doc 1
1260 Graphics Drive - Modesto,CA 95351-1502 - (209)579-2221 - Fax(209)579-2225
Engineering - Consulting - Remediation - Construction
