•
SMTH
V
5.0 SCOPE OF WORK
5.1 Permitting and Scheduling
law
This task includes obtaining the necessary permits for drilling and well installation from
PHS/EHD, scheduling field personnel and equipment, locating underground utilities, and
performing any other necessary field preparation and job start-up activities. Permit
applications and associated fees are contained in Appendix D.
5.2 Installation of Three Groundwater Monitoring Wells
Three soil borings will be advanced to depths of approximately 30 feet using 8-inch diameter.
V
hollow stem augers. Locations of proposed borings are shown on Figure 2. Drilling will be
conducted by a State-licensed (C57) drilling company. A field geologist will be present to log
all drill cuttings and soil samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered, sample collection
intervals, and well construction details will be recorded on boring/well logs and included in the
tow PAR. Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals and up to two soil samples per
boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis of TPHg and BTEX.
All drill cuttings will be placed in 55-gallon drums approved for hazardous waste storage and
stored on-site pending laboratory results. Selected soil samples will be transported using
chain-of-custody record to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of TPHg and BTEX by EPA
methods 8015 (modified) and 8020, respectively.
Soil borings will be completed as groundwater monitoring wells. The monitoring wells will be
60 constructed of 2-inch inside diameter PVC well screen and casing. A 0.010-inch well screen
slot and #2/12 mesh sand pack will be used. Neat cement will be used to seal the wells in
accordance with California Well Standards (December 1981). To protect the integrity of the
wells, locking, water-tight well plugs will be installed on each well and a water-tight, locking
wellhead labeled "monitoring well" will be concreted over each well. Based on the historical
depth to groundwater in the area near the site, the wells are proposed to be constructed as
shown on Figure 3.
95122\WP-0695.doc 3
V
V
