v
A S S O C I A T E S I N C
SCOPE OF WORK
Planning and Permits
ATC has prepared the drilling permit applications for the proposed subsurface investigation. The
permits and associated fees are attached. ATC will also schedule field personnel and equipment,
notify Underground Services Alert to locate underground utilities as required, and perform other
necessary field preparation and job start-up activities.
Installation of Soil Borings
One soil boring will be advanced employing electronic CPT methods at the location shown on
Figure 2. The boring will be advanced to an estimated depth of 120 feet bgs in order to take
readings and identify the two suspected major water bearing zones. The boring will be used with
prior data to further evaluate the vertical extent of impacted groundwater and subsurface soil
lithology. A total of one soil and two groundwater samples from the CPT boring will be
collected for laboratory analysis.
A cone mounted with sensors at the tip will be advanced into the soil using direct push rods. The
sensors will test the response of the soil to the force of the penetrating cone and this will allow
the subsurface stratigraphy to be characterized. The boring will be advanced until a significant
clay layer is encountered that appears to separate the shallow water bearing zone from the deeper
water bearing zones or to a maximum depth of 150 feet. For estimating purposes, ATC is
assuming the CPT boring will be advanced to approximately 120 feet bgs.
Three Geoprobe0 soil borings will be advanced to a sand interval commonly present in the
uppermost aquifer, approximately 15 to 25 feet below ground surface bgs. The proposed boring
locations are shown on Figure 2. The borings will be advanced using truck mounted Geoprobe0
narrow diameter, direct push technology. Drilling will be conducted by a State-licensed (C57)
drilling company. A field geologist will be present to log soil samples. Descriptions of soil
types encountered and sample collection intervals will be recorded on boring logs. Soil samples
will be collected at five-foot intervals, field screened with a Flame Ionization Detection (FID)
meter, and an estimated two soil samples from each boring will be submitted for laboratory
analysis. Soil sample selection will be based on FID measurements. and field observations (i.e.
odor and soil discoloration).
One groundwater sample will be collected from each Geoprobe boring at a depth of
approximately 15 to 25 feet bgs. A GeoprobeO Screen Point 15 Groundwater Sampler will be
threaded onto the leading end of the GeoprobeO when the groundwater is encountered. While
the sampler is advanced, O-ring seals and an expendable drive point will provide a watertight
system to ensure sample integrity.
w:\I4885\reports\wkpin.doc 3
