Eleventh:Street
Tracy, California 95304-8831
Dear Ms. Miller:
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health. Department (EHD) has received and reviewed j
Revised Work Plan for Soil Gas Investigation at Former Fayette Manufacturing Site (work.plan),
dated 06 March 2013, prepared by your consulting firm, Cardno ATC, on your behalf. The work
plan was submitted in response to,the EHD letter dated.16 January 2013 directing that the
original work plan be resubmitted after addressing bulleted items listed in the EHD letter
concerningthe collection of soil as, indoor and ambient air samples and evaluation of the
9
results from the data collected.
I
I Although Cardno ATC did not provide the room location of the one indoor air sample and the
approximate location of the one ambient air sample proposed to be collected upwind, the EHD
approves the work plan with these conditions:
I
• If a rotohammer drill is used in conjunction with a drill rod to advance the borehole prior
to installing the soil vapor probe, the equilibration time is two hours; however, if the
rotohammer drill Is used with an auger-type attachment, the equilibration time is twenty-
four hours.
• When constructing each vapor probe, after backfilling the bottom of the boring with sand
9
to a height several inches above the probe tip, emplace approximately six to twelve
I
inches of dry granular.bentonite before emplacing the pre-hydrated bentonite Into the
boring. (The purpose of the dry bentonite is to prevent hydrated bentonite from
infiltrating the sand pack.)
When calculating the purge volume, include the void space of the dry bentonite in the
annular space in addition to the internal volume of tubing, the annual space around the
probe tip, and the tubing volume of the above ground sampling assembly.
When purging and collecting soil gas samples, maintain a vacuum of less than or equal
to one-hundred inches of water.
