Eleventh Street
Tracy CA 95376
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the "Revised Work Plan for Reconnaissance Preliminary Subsurface Site
Investigation" dated January 11, 2000 that was prepared by Wright Environmental Services, Inc.
(Wright) on behalf of the above referenced site and has the following comments.
The work plan proposes to begin the contaminant investigation at this site with a series of up to
six direct push soil borings. The borings will be located one each in the areas of the two former
tank pits and up to four more at locations progressively down-gradient from the former tank pits.
Total depth of the borings is estimated to be 20-25 feet below surface grade (bsg). Soil
samples will be collected in acetate sleeves at a minimum of every five feet, and one
groundwater sample will be collected from each boring. Up to three soil samples and the
groundwater sample from each boring will be analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents.
Borehole destruction will be by neat cement grout placed with a tremmie pipe from the bottom to
the top of the boring.
The work plan is approved with the following conditions. Should field screening with a vapor
photoionization meter (PID) or field observations indicate that contamination is still present at
25-feet bsg, the total depth of the borings should be extended. Vertical definition of soil
contamination is generally considered to have been made after two consecutive 'clean' samples
have been recovered. The exact locations of the lateral borings are subject to modification.
Should the boring advanced in the area of former tank pit#1 indicate contamination in this area,
it is the recommendation of PHS/EHD that at least one boring be advanced south of there, to
the presumed up-gradient direction.
PHS/EHD has received the well permit application and required $89.00 fee. Please proceed
with scheduling the fieldwork. Forty-eight hours notice to PHS/EHD is required prior to site
mobilization.
