(Wright) is pleased to provide you with this workplan for the <br /> environmental investigation at the above referenced site (see Figure 1). The purpose of this work is to <br /> ascertain presence of suspected petroleum contaminants in soil and groundwater around the former tank <br /> area as required by the San Joaquin County, Public Heaith Services -Environmental Health Division <br /> (PHS-EHD)in their letter dated August 16, 1999. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Two underground fuel storage tanks (Tank#1 1,000 gallon diesel; Tank#2 1000 gallon gasoline;) were <br /> used by M&M Building Supply until their removal from the site on August 8. 1988 and June 23,1994 <br /> respectively, (see Figure 1). One soil and one grab groundwater sample were collected from the tank pit <br /> of T-1. Analysis of the soil evidenced 8,700 parts per million(ppm)Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon(TPH), <br /> .8-ppm benzene, 1.4-ppm toluene and 1.1-ppm xylene. Analysis of the water evidenced 56,000-parts per t- .%\ l0 <br /> t'il1i�=TPH, 11,000-ppb benzene, 3,100-ppb toluene and 7,200-ppb xylene. Four wil samples and <br /> one grab groundwater sample were collected for analyses subsequent to removal o T-2. o soil samples <br /> \ <br /> from the bottom of the tank pit were reported as non-detectable for TPH and two soil samples collected <br /> from the stockpile and analyzed, evidenced very minor TPH contamination. The water sample collected_ _. <br /> from the tank pit and analyzed evidenced 11,000-ppb TPH as gas (TPHg);I10-ppb ethyl benzene_' On <br /> July 28, 1994 another water sample was collected, analysis resulted in non-dzTectable results for TPH <br /> constituents. Methods of purging groundwater(if performed) from the former tank pit prior to collecting <br /> groundwater sample apparently were not forwarded to PHS-EHD for evaluation prior to their issuing (if <br /> warranted) final closure of T-2 site. Current Law requires all sites to be tested for methyl tertiary butyl <br /> ether(1VrIBE)prior to issuance of a notification of closure by PHS-EHD. <br /> The PHS-EHD indicated that further assessment work was needed to ascertain contaminant source,lateral <br /> and vertical extent and impact to soil and groundwater. In addition, PHS-EHD has required a well <br /> survey, which documents the locations of all domestic, municipal, industrial, agricultural and other wells <br /> within a 2,000-foot radius of the site. One domestic water supply well exists on the site. Application for <br /> reimbursement from the State Water Resources Control Board UST Clean Up Fund has not been filed for <br /> this site. <br /> 67 E. 10th Street .
