PHS/EHD has the following comments for your information.
PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated December 9, 1992 that a work plan be
submitted to define the extent of residual contamination. Residual soil contamination of up
to 50 ppb benzene, 340 ppb toluene, 1,300 ppb ethylbenzene, 890 ppb xylene and 64 ppm
TPH-diesel was detected in the sample collected on October 8, 1992 from the western wall
of the excavation. PHS/EHD does not agree with the conclusion in the above mentioned
report that no further investigation is necessary. Please be informed that the site will not
be considered for closure until the extent of residual contamination is physically defined
and/or remediated. Please submit a work plan to investigate the extent of residual
contamination by June 15, 1993.
Please contact the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board for approval of the
proposed groundwater and stockpiled soil disposal options.
If you have any questions or wish to schedule a site inspection to witness groundwater
sampling, please contact Mary Meays, Senior REHS, of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
a le A.
