t""/VAS
Working To Restore Nature
tr:/ No petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were detected in any soil sample (Table 2). However,
elevated levels of TPHd and aromatics were present in the groundwater sample collected from
k< beneath the diesel tank (Table 3).
On October 23 and 24, 1989, three soil borings (MW1, MW2 and MW3) were drilled under the
supervision of RESNA, and completed as monitoring wells (Figure 2). The depths of the
borings ranged from 21 to 24 feet below grade. Soil samples were collected from each boring
between 8.5 and 9.0 feet below grade, the capillary fringe. The samples were analyzed for
BTEX and TPHd. Petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were not resent at or above method
 Y Y P
detection limits in the soil samples (Table 2). Groundwater samples were collected and analyzed
for BTEX, and TPHd. Low levels of toluene were present in wells MWl and MW2 at 0.88 and
0.32 j,glf,, respectively (Table 3). No other petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were present at or
above method detection limits in the groundwater samples collected from MWl, MW2, or
MW3.
On May 22, 1990, RESNA supervised the installation of an additional monitoring well, MW4,
at the downgradient edge of the former tank location (Figure 2). A soil sample collected from
the capillary fringe (5.5 feet below grade) was analyzed for BTEX and TPHd. Low levels of
petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were present in the soil sample (Table 2). A groundwater
sample was collected from the well and analyzed for BTEX and TPHd. Detectable levels of
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel and BTEX were present in the groundwater 3 sample Table .
p ( }
Following the installation of well MW4 a program of quarterly groundwater monitoring and
sampling was instituted. Historical groundwater elevation data and analytical results are
f.
summarized in Tables 1 and 3, respectively.
To investigate the possibility of residual soil contamination in the former diesel tank pit, RESNA
personnel supervised the drilling and sampling of two soil borings (SB 1 and SB2) on July 27,
OW01951REPORT51CLOM94.FNL 3
tr?JI
i
