PERMITISERVICES
8452 DeMartini Lane
Linden, CA 95236
INCOMPLETE REPORT OF WASTE DISCHARGE, LINDEN NUT COMPANY, INC., SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board staff has reviewed the 8 October 2010 Report
Waste Discharge (RWD) prepared by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. for Linden Nut Company, Inc. in San
Joaquin County. Based on the review of your submittal, we have determined that the RWD is
incomplete, as discussed below.
1. The June 2011 water balance in the supplemental RWD indicated that 5.80 ac-ft of storage is
needed, but that the pond only provides 3.9 ac-ft of storage with two feet of freeboard.
We understand that you have recently increased the pond size to address the inadequate
storage issue. Please provide current pond dimensions, depth, and capacity at two feet of
freeboard.
2. According to the RWD, a sample of water from the pond was collected on 9 January 2008. The
date was selected to provide data representative of the wastewater and storm water mixture.
However, staff's review of precipitation data from the California Irrigation Management Irrigation
System indicates there was no measurable precipitation in 40 days prior to the sample event.
Therefore, the amount of dilution provided by storm water is questionable. If you have
additional water samples collected from the pond during the rainy seasons in 2009 through
2011, please provide the sampling results. In addition, if you prefer to estimate the wastewater
quality in the pond by using average precipitation data, it is acceptable. The data should
include at least following: BOD, TDS, FDS, total nitrogen, chloride, and sodium.
3. The RWD includes groundwater data collected from the onsite supply well in May 2005.
These data are seven years old and do not represent the current groundwater quality.
Please provide at least one set of recent supply well sampling results that are representative of
groundwater quality in the first aquifer. The data should include at least BOD, TDS, FDS, total
nitrogen, chloride, and sodium.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Za Recvcled Paper
