We have
reviewed the ROWD, and your previously submitted Waste Management Plan for the dairy.
The following is a summary of otter understanding of the project:_.--_ ---
The proposal is to build a small cheese plant at the existing dairy located at 22000
Mariposa Road. The current project proposal is for 200 gallons of milk per day
capacity. It may be more at.a later date.
All of the whey will be hauled off property to a calf ranch for use as feed, and will not be
applied to the dairy cropland or stored in the waste management system.
All of the solids and garbage from the cheese plant will be handled in waste bins and
disposed of at-appropriate locations, not in the dairy waste management system.
The cheese plant facility wash water will be minimal, and consistent in nature with the
current dairy facility wash water.
The proposed wash water volume from the cheese plant will be stored in the dairy
wastewater lagoon. The lagoon water will be applied to cropland at agronomic rates
and timing. The current Waste Management Plan for the dairy has been reviewed, and
there appears to be sufficient storage capacity for the additional wash water
(approximately 2,000 gallon per week).
Based on the information above, the project does not appear to change the characteristics of
your dairy facility. The dairy can continue to operate under the existing dairy General Order
No. R5-2007-0035, and will not require Individual Waste Discharge Requirements. If there are
any changes or corrections to the above, please let us 'know. Also, if the capacity will be
increased at a later date, you will need to submit another Report of Waste Discharge
explaining the proposed changes. If you have any questions, please telephone me at (916)
464-4724.
Charlene Herbst
Senior Engineering Geologist
Confined Animal Facility Regulatory Unit
California Environmental Protection Agency
C4Recycled Paper
1 .
