`.. Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The Site can be found on the Geologic Map of California, San Jose sheet (Rogers,
1966). It is depicted within a map unit of Pleistocene nonmarine deposits (Plate 8).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the USDA Web
Soil Survey to be composed of Madera sandy loam and the Madera-Alamo complex
(Plate 9) (USDA, 2014). The table below presents some selected properties of these
soils:
Table 1. The borings were four
inches in diameter, 3.01, 3.03, 16.55, and 17.00 feet deep, and were excavated by hand
auger (Table 2). The locations of the borings are indicated on Plate 10.
The soil in the borings was similar to that described by the Soil Survey. At location P1,
sand-clay combinations were encountered to a depth of 4.5 feet, followed by silt-sand
combinations to a depth of 9.0 feet, followed by sandy clay to a depth of 14 feet,
followed by fine sand with silt to the full depth of the hole. At location P2, clay-sand
combinations were encountered to 5.5 feet, followed by silt-sand combinations to a
depth of 10.5 feet, followed by sand-clay combinations to a depth of 15.5 feet, followed
LOGE 1415 Page 5
