l
Upgradient Contribu ,ons of Agricultural Wastes:
There are several sources for the potential degradation of the ground water that are in the vicinity of
this new dairy facility.
*There are several dairies upgradient. Directly to the south,acrossthe street is the Joe DaSilva Dairy-
Is considered to be slightly to the south west,or lateral to the ground water under the proposed new
George teVelde Dairy. There are several more dairies,specifically the Manuel DaSilva Dairy, the John
DaSilva Dairy and the Caton Dairy, upgradient that are too far away to be considered in this study.
*What I consider to be the greatest threat to the ground water that is upgradient is the large acreage of
rice farms. I consider these to have the most potential to infiltrate nitrates to the ground water because
they do not have wet-dry cycles as other farmed crops do These wet-dry cycles between irrigations
interrupt the hydrolic pressure that is posed from standing water. This constant pressure increases the
potential of elements to be carried down to the static water table.
®Western Design/David Avila 1999
1
}
r
20 `~
