4 Ground Water Dep nd Gradient
It appears that the aquifer providing the primary water source in the area lies
k
a
at a.depth of approximately 110 feet below the surface. However, Oakdale
Irrigation district wells are much deeper—from 400 to 500 feet and
undoubtedly also tap water-bearing units lower in the stratigraphic section.
The piezometric surface of the ground water table slopes to the north, away
from the Stanislaus River which lies approximately eight miles to the south.
Because of the deep ground water depth, it is difficult to determine seasonal
variations in ground water elevation. However, Oakdale Irrigation District
reported that the water levels vary only about three_ are actively
The lowest levels
occur during the summer months when irri anon wells
g pumped.
Ground Water Sam li
P ng
Five water supply wells in the vicinity were sampled to determine the
baseline concentrations of nitrate and total dissolved solids. DBCP and EDB
was also determined for three of the wells. The wells that were sampled were
as follows:
On site well (sample TVW-4) in the SW 1/4 of Section 10, T. I S., R. 9 E.
Downgradient OID irrigation well (sample TVW-5) located at the common
corners of Sections 3 4 9 & 10 T.
I S., R. 9 E
Upgradient private well at the Taro ranch (sample TVW-3) located in the NW
1/4 of Section 14, T. I S., R. 9 E
Cross gradient well (sample TVW-1) located at the Eck residence, located in
the SW 1/4, SETA, Section 15, T. 1 S., R. 9 E.
Cross gradient well (sample TVW-2) located on the Trimble ranch, in the
SW 1/4, SE 1/4, Section 11, T. I S., R. 9 E..
Water samples from these five wells were transferred under chain of custody
to A & L Western Agricultural Laboratories in Modesto, where they were "
analyzed for nitrate and total dissolved solids. Samples from TVW-3,4 & 5
were also analyzed for total and fecal coliform, calcium, magnesium, pH,
total hardness, electrical conductivity, EDB and DBCP.
Reference map at appendix III A for locations.
Reference appendix III B, 1-3 for test results.
