1
4
Statement of Purpose:
This Soil Suitability analysis and Nitrate Loading analysis is to determine the capability
and capacity of the soils to be used to disperse manure solids and nutrient laden liquids
and to qualify the cooperative farming plan between the properties owned by George A.
teVelde and George teVelde Jr.
Statement of Planned Operation:
The owner of the site property and the to be owner/operator of the proposed new dairy
is George Andrew teVelde, son of George teVelde of Modesto. George Andrew is
currently part owner and operator of two existing family owned dairies located in
Stanislaus County. They both are located north of Modesto, off of Ladd Road,
approximately 6 miles west of McHenry Ave. These existing dairy facilities are milking
approximately 2500 cows. They also maintain all the replacement cattle at these facilities.
The current project has been approved by the San Joaquin County Planning
Department. Their Site Approval number is SA-99-19. This approval allows for a dairy
cow milking facility, dairy cattle feeding facilities, cattle feed and commodity storage and
farming operation.
The facility is on one parcel, APN 207-130-03, 160 acres. The land is currently
irrigated pasture on natural grade. There are four soil types at the site. Each type has been
analyzed in the content of this report. The site will end up as dairy facilities of
approximately 108 acres leaving a balance of approximately 52 acres to farming. The site
is to be graded to contain all surface runoff from the facility yard, feed storage areas,
corral areas, manure storage areas and nutrient water lagoon storage areas. The firming
fields are to be graded to 0.2%slope to accommodate a border/flood irrigation system.
There is to be a tail water return system to pump irrigation runoff back to a main storage
lagoon. There will also be a locked control gate at the catch basin from which clear winter
' rainfall runoff can gravity flow into the existing Cometa drain ditch that is a tributary to
Temple Creek.
The manure solids and nutrient water management plan will disperse these products onto
52 acres at two fields at the site and 489.7 acres of farming field adjacent to the facility.
These 489.7 acres are owned and managed by George A. teVelde and George teVelde Jr.
There is a written and signed agreement included with this report, reference appendix VII,
1-5 which leaglly documents an agreement between George A. teVelde and George
teVelde Jr. to dispurse manure solids and nutrient laden water onto the properties owned
by George teVelde Jr. There is also a soil analysis and nutrient analysis included in this
report that reflects the overall operations to be implemented to manage the manure solids
and nutrient laden liquids.
Western Design/David Avila 1999
4
