D. DESIGN AND OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PRESSURIZED
DISPOSAL SYSTEM
Pump Basin to Filter Bed: Effluent will gravity flow to the pump basin where a duplex pump
system will pressurize the effluent: Orenco Pump Basin PN: P112454. Orenco Duplex Effluent
Pump System: PN: PF3005, '%HP,30 gpm, 115 Volt contained within the pump basin. Total
effluent volume can be calculated by checking pump cycle times on the panel and also to ensure
both pumps are distributing effluent equally. Pressurized effluent to travel in Sch. 40 PVC 2.0" dia.
Laterals for the Filter Bed: Sch. 40 PVC 1.0" dia., 1/8" orifice directed at 12 o'clock with orifice
shields, 5.0 ft spacing and 78 ft long. Install clean-outs at the end of each lateral and at the end of
manifold, and to be contained within Christy boxes.
IV. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
NLS§ 4.ZThe nitrate loading calculations show the effluent from the proposed project will
theoretically possess a nitrate-nitrogen concentration well below the Federal nitrate Maximum
Contaminant Level (MCL) of 45 ppm as nitrate or 10 ppm nitrate as nitrogen, and may actually
create a dilution effect tot eh underlying groundwater. A total nitrogen concentration equivalent to
domestic sources, as referenced in the scientific literature, was used in the loading calculations.
SSS§ 5.4, 6.88.. The soils underlying the proposed filter bed area show a rapid permeability
considering the clay content. Applying the effluent uniformly through pressure distribution over
the entire area of the filter bed will allow optimum effluent management by the receiving soils.
Although the Leachline Equivalent Requirement calculated the filter bed requirement to be 995 ft ,
it is my professional opinion that there is ample disposal area at 800 ft . This 800 ft' area also
applies to the 100%reserve/replacement area. The receiving soils will readily manage the
incoming effluent volume, even under severe hydraulic stress. Soil stormwater management was
observed this past winter when one of the highest recorded rainfall seasons occurred with virtually
no ponding or runoff from the uncovered leachfreld area.
NLS§4.2 SSS§ 6.._ As the effluent infiltrates into and percolates downward from the soil-
effluent interface, the saturated soil conditions will create an anaerobic environment, thus
promoting denitrification. Coupled with the organic fraction from the effluent, this should promote
denitrification to a greater extent.
Crash posts, also known as bollards or safety barriers, are to be installed around the septic tank and
pump chamber. The number of posts and installation procedures shall be provided by the company
installing them. Posts have been shown in the Site Plan only as a representation and not for
construction purposes. In addition, the posts should be installed immediately after the completion
of the septic system installation since it would be prudent to install the pump controller/alarm box
on one of the posts.
Page-9-
