He participated actively as an <br /> influential member of the Lockeford community. On the second floor <br /> of the adobe granary or barn, he fitted up a hall for public gatherings, <br /> and here the local Sons of Temperance were organized. In the early <br /> 1860's the Congregationalists held services in the building. Dean J. <br /> Locke was especially active in organizing schools, churches and <br /> temperance societies, and in these areas influenced the community <br /> during its early decades. D. J.
