• On-Site Wells <br /> No wells are currently located on the Site. <br /> One well permit was identified for the Site from among the San Joaquin County <br /> Environmental Health Department permit files. The permit, dated August 2002, was for <br /> the destruction of a 70-foot deep well. The well was filled with cement and capped <br /> three feet below grade. The permit has been attached to this report. <br /> Water Sample <br /> No water sample was collected for this investigation. <br /> Sources of Nitrate to Groundwater <br /> Off-Site Sources of Nitrate <br /> Many sources can contribute to ground water nitrate contamination, including <br /> agricultural activities, dairies and cattle ranches, septic systems, and storm water <br /> infiltration. <br /> Septic systems and dairies have been found to be the most significant sources of nitrate <br /> in ground water. Orchards that require fertilization in sandy soils are also a significant <br /> source of nitrate contamination in shallow or sandy aquifers in San Joaquin County. <br /> The general area consists of residences and agricultural land. <br /> LOGE 1821 Page 4 <br />
