f
2
January 16, 2007
NOA Project Number: E07009A
Commercial Building
The commercial building is proposed to have approximately ten (10) employees per day. The
number of customers is estimated to be 32,based on the number of parking spaces on site. The
building will be open six days a week with normal business hours.
Our office was provided with water meter records, for buildings in the area with similar square
footage as the proposed commercial building on site, to determine average sewage flow rates. Our
office was provided with this information for five (5) sites by the City of Lodi Public Works. The
winter months' rates were used in order to minimize water flow related to irrigation (which does not
enter the septic disposal area). The average flow rate for the buildings in the winter months was
approximately 165 gallons per day (gpd).
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards
(2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998),and EPA (1980). The references indicate that ten (10)
gallons for each employee is typical for a shopping center employee and two (2) gallons is typical for
a shopping center customer. The total estimated sewage flow for the commercial building would be
j V estimated at approximately 164 gpd, which is consistent with the aforementioned commercial
building flow average.
((2gpd x 32 customers)) + ((10gpd x 10 employees)) =164 gpd
Gas Station & Convenience Store
The gas station and convenience store is proposed to have approximately two (2) employees per
shift, six (6) total. The building will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our office was
provided with water meter and customer receipt records from the 76 station and convenience store
! ? located at the northeast corner of Interstate 5 and Walnut Grove Road in Thornton, California. The
estimated sewage flow rate for a gas station employee is approximately 13 gpd. The 76 station had a
Fdaily average of 1,500 customer receipts and a flow rate of 913 gpd, giving an average use of 0.56
gallons per customer per day (with the subtraction of 78 gpd, or six (6) gas station employees at 13
gpd).
FjThe 76 station is located beside Interstate 5 and gets heavy use. The Farmington station will be in a
less populated area with less use. It is estimated that the use will be on the order of 25 percent less
Fiusage, remaining in a flow of approximately 708 gpd:
((.56gpd x 1,125 customers) +(13gpd x 6 employees)) = 708 gpd
F 5
P
