This could include providing an information center for residents to coordinate carpooling. Check out the "Spare the Air" section of our website www.valleyair.org • Construction activity mitigation measures include: t - Limit area subject to excavation, grading, and other construction activity at any one time - Limit the hours of operation of heavy duty'equipment and/or the amount of equipment in use - Replace fossil-fueled equipment with electrically driven equivalents (provided they are not run via a portable generator set) - Require that all diesel engines be shut off when not in use to reduce emissions from idling. - Curtail construction during periods of high ambient pollutant concentrations; this may include ceasing of construction activity during the peak-hour of vehicular traffic on adjacent roadways, and "Spare the Air Days"declared by the District. - Implement activity management(e.g. rescheduling activities to reduce short-term impacts) - During the smog season (May through October), lengthen the construction period to minimize the number of vehicles and equipment operating at the same time. - Off road trucks should be equipped with on-road engines when possible. - Minimize obstruction of traffic on adjacent roadways. • Construction equipment may be powered by diesel engines fueled by alternative diesel fuel blends or i Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). The California Air Resources Board (CARE) has verified specific alternative diesel fuel blends for NOx and PM emission reduction. Only fuels that have been certified by CARB should be used. Information on biodiesel can be found on CARB's website at http://www.arb.ca.qL)v/fut-is/diesel/gltdiesel/altdiesel.htm and the EPA's website at http://www.epa.gov/oms/models/biodsl.htm. The applicant should also use CARB certified alternative fueled engines in construction equipment where practicable. Alternative fueled equipment may be powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquid Propane Gas (LPG), electric motors, or other CARB certified off-road technologies.
