Presently, wastewater is contained in tanks and discharged at the
City of Lodi municipal wastewater treatment facility. CSW obtained coverage under Resolution No.
R5-2003-0106,,4 Waiver of Waste Discharge Requirements for Small Food Processors, Including
Wineries, Within the Central Valley Region on 14 November 2003.
The Waiver allows wineries of any size to tank and haul wastewater to an acceptable wastewater
treatment facility so your desire to increase wastewater generation is acceptable. However, the
application of solids generated by wine making requires submittal of a solid waste management plan. If
solid waste will be applied to land, then a Solids Disposal Operation and Maintenance Plan is required
(see Section L, Page 8 of Resolution); if solid waste will be removed from the facility, then a Solids
Disposal Operation and Maintenance Plan is required (see Section M. Page 8 of the Resolution).
By 15 April 2004, please submit the appropriate solid waste document. If you have any questions,
please contact me at (916) 464-4616.
TIMOTHY .O'BRIEN
Waste Discharge to Land Unit
cc: Mike Huggins, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, Stockton
California Environmental Protection Agency
Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
