+-■ -' " kTJ KLEINFELDER
`~ 6 SITE RECONNAISSANCE
6.1. METHODOLOGY AND LIMITING CONDITIONS
6-
Mr. Philip Marquez, Kleinfelder Staff Biologist, conducted a site reconnaissance on October 29,
2003 to assess and photograph present site conditions. The approximate site boundaries are
shown on Plate 2, "Site Map," and color photographs of the site are presented on Plates 3 and 4
(Appendix A). The site conditions discussed below are limited to readily apparent environmental
conditions observed.
. 6.2. GENERAL SITE SETTING
The site is approximately 21 acres in size and is located at 18327 East Highway 88 in Clements,
`r California. At the time of Kleinfelder's site reconnaissance, the site was mostly vacant field.
The site is located on a river terrace with the higher elevations located in the central portion of
the site and the lower elevations located around the northern, eastern and western portions of the
site. An abandoned brick building was noted near the southwestern portion of the site. Most of
the flooring and the roofing was removed at.the time of Kieinfelder's site reconnaissance. A
wooden stage area, approximately 5 feet wide, 20 feet long, and 2 feet high, was noted along the
northern wall of the building. Two empty 5-gallon containers were located on the wooden stage.
No evidence of leakage or odors was noted. The rest of the building had an earthen floor
growing vegetation. No evidence of leakage, staining, stressed vegetation, or odors were noted
within the building. A pole-mounted transformer and a pad-mounted transformer were noted off
site along the southern edge of the site, in the southwestern corner. No staining, leakage, or
t- odors were associated with the transformers. The northern, southwestem and southeastern
portions of the site are located within an oak woodland area and according to a map provided by
the client; several Elderberry bushes (Sambucus spp.) are located in this area. A small metal
- debris pile was noted near the western portion of the site and was believed to be pieces of
roofing, associated with brick building. No staining, leakage, or stressed vegetation were
associated with the pile. A pit, approximately four feet in diameter and 3-4 feet deep was noted
in the southeastern portion of the site. No staining, stressed vegetation, or odors were noted in or
around the pit. A metal debris pile was noted south of the pit. No staining, leakage, or stressed
vegetation were associated with the pile. A wooden debris pile was noted in the southeastern
`~ portion of the site, north of the pit. No evidence of staining, leakage, or odors was associated
with the wooden debris pile
An orchard was noted north and west of the subject site. A residential area and Highway 88 were
noted south of the site, beyond which is vacant field and a rural residential area. Vacant field and
oak woodland were noted east of the site.
4
37417.P01 /ST03R1777 Page 16 of 24
©2003 Kleinfelder, Inc. December 16,2003
