construction employees would be hired from the residents of the
County.
Wilbur Elias, applicant's Traffic Consultant (5250 Claremont,
Stockton) said the elimination of the shuttle trips will result in
a decrease in the truck trips. He objected to the requirement that
the applicant construct a left turn lane.
Ron Addington, representing the Business Council of San ;Joaquin
County (2.800 W. March Lane, Stockton) , . said the.present business
operation his been -an asset to the County and a "good corporate
neighbor."- The proposed plan was redesigned to meet some of the
concerns of the neighbors.
Bili Dobbs (27 "L" Cameron Wy. , Novato) , applicant's. Acoustical
Engineer, said that the traffic from Jack Tone Road causes much of
the noise in the area. The proposed operation will not create a
a
disturbnce to the neighbors.
Mingo Guerrini (9561 E. Fairchild) , owner of G a E Trucking,
located in the ._area, suggested that Fairchild Road be posted to
prohibit through trucks over 80,000 pounds in weight.
Ted Holmstrom (1529 Edgewood Dr. ,, Lodi) , representing the Cherry
Industry of California, spoke in favor of the project. He noted
the economic 'benefit to the area from the Chinchiolo operation. He
noted that the Chinchiolo plant needs to be modernized and these
applications will provide that opportunity. He said that the
project would have to meet requirements.
Frank Stegmiller _ (48 East Oak St. , Lodi:) , Entomologist for the
applications, answered questions on the fumigation chemicals that
will be used in the project. He said, that such operations are
monitored by the. county, Federal agencies, and in the case of the
cherry operation, by a representative from Japan.
OPPONENTS: Attorney Howard Seligman (.7510 Shoreline Drive,
Stockton) , representing many of the farmers and property owners in
the area, made the following points: '
• The economic issues of the project are not a consideration.
• The issue is the magnitude of. the proposed expansion and
whether the site is appropriate. for_ the use.
s The development Wille increase traffic on Fairchild Road,
which is narrow and only two lanes wide.
It will cause a precedent for similar projects to locate on
Jack .Tone Road.
PC MINUTES -4- 4/15/93
