The Agriculture]Commissioner Office <br /> wo inspect the site to ensure that the chlorine is being properly used and to ensure that the <br /> equipment used for washing the cherries meets their standards. <br /> Ammonia is used to cool the cherries. The use and storage of the ammonia has to comply with <br /> the standards of the Linden-Peters Fire District. The handling of the chlorine and the ammonia <br /> must meet the standard requirements of the Office of Emergency Services, and Condition of <br /> Approval 7(b) requires that a Risk Management Prevention Program be filed within 12 months <br /> after the substance Is on the site. <br /> The fungicide, Roveral, which is used in the packing of the cherries to retard the decay, will be <br /> circulated into a tank and then emptied daffy. The applicant has a service that will pump the tank <br /> daily and properly dispose of the waste. The use of this chemical has to be reported to the <br /> Agrlculi a Comntissk ner Office prior to application and be in compliance with their standards. <br /> Methyl bromide wM be used In the fumigation chamber. Chambers are annually inspected by the ._ <br /> U.&DA During the export season, the chambers are inspected by the U.S.D.A. or the <br /> Agricultural Commissioner Office. Venting of the chamber is typica* done in the middle of the <br /> night. The State of California,Department of Pesticide Regulation,has conducted studies on the <br /> various Lissa of methyl bromide and will be requiring conditions with the permits for the methyl <br /> bromide use sometime in the now future. This chemical is routinely used by cherry packing <br /> sheds in the county. A letter from the Office of the Agricultural Commissioner of San Joaquin <br /> County states that a search of their records of the investigations made by that office in the last <br /> five years does not rev" any reported illnesses resulting from the venting of fumigation <br /> cha rnbers using methyl bromide. The handling of this chemical must meet the standard <br /> reguirements of the Office of Emergency Services prior to initiation of the use. <br /> ]gbMM9_WEtM CONSIDERATIONS: <br /> The Initial Study preparadfor this project did not identify any significant impacts that the proposed project <br /> may have upon the environment Based on the Initial Study, a Negative Declaration has been prepared. <br /> In additk n a Certificate of Fee Exemption with a'DeMinimis Impact Finding• has been prepared which <br /> states that the project will rot have an adverse effect on wildlife resources. <br />
