F
ODUCTION
esearch has been retained by the Mission of the Good Shepard Catholic Church of
p, CA to conduct a Nitrate Loading Study and Soil Suitability Study as required by
quin County Department of Environmental Health(PHS-EHD). The Church is
proposing to construct an addition to the existing Chapel. Mr. Don Rodgers of Rodgers
Construction and Engineering is the representative for the Church and has provided the necessary
information to complete these studies. This information includes the site plan, average number
of Parishioners during Sunday services and related events.
The Church is located on the north side of French Camp Road, northwest of the French Camp
Post Office. The property address is 350 East French Camp Road, the Assessors Parcel Number
is 193-130-31, and the site comprises 0.92 acres.
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(PHS-EHD) requires Nitrate
Loading and Soil Suitability Studies for projects in unsewered areas, or for projects which may
potentially impact the underlying groundwater with nitrate. This report complies with the San
Joaquin County Development Title, Section 9-1105.2 for a Nitrate Loading Study and Soil
Suitability Study.
This report discusses a septic system which complies Wth the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department Sewage Standardsith design recommendations to mitigate
potential environmental impact and promote groundwater protection based upon contemporary
scientific studies.
II. SOIL SUITABILITY STUDY FINDINGS
A. SUBJECT PROPERTY AND SURROUNDING STUDY AREA INFORMATION
The subject property has been a Catholic Church for more than 50 years. There are ancillary
buildings for storage, classrooms and on-site parking. Since the town of French Camp has no
municipal water and sewer treatment facilities, all commercial and residential parcels have on-
site water and septic systems. The surrounding land use is comparatively diversified; however,
the majority of land use is for agricultural production, along with medium-to-high density
housing. There are public, commercial and industrial facilities surrounding the subject site, such
as the French Camp School, comer grocery stores, post office, fire station, a large poly tank
manufacturer and the Simplot Fertilizer Plant.
Applications on file with the Environmental Health Department reveal twenty permits have been
issued for repairs/additions to existing systems in the one-half mile study area. Copies of these
permits are found in the Appendix. Twen ermits in this study area can be considered
excessive, considering the comparatively sandy soil. The repairs and additions consisted of
additional leachlines, sumps, seepage pits and replacement of redwood septic tanks.
Page -1-
Vafley Ag Research
