CKLElDER
19hIhWle.RI9h5°IuOona.
4. ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED
' Kleinfelder and Norman's Nursery personnel have conducted groundwater and surface
water sampling and monitoring in an effort to comply with the RWQCB Monitoring and
Reporting Program (MRP) No. 97-811 and Kleinfelder's revised workplan dated
October 31, 1997. Three deep monitoring wells (DP-1, DP-2, and DP-3) and two
shallow monitoring wells (MW-2 and MW-5) located on the Norman's property were
monitored during the fourth quarter of 2011. In an attempt to comply with the above-
referenced MRP, surface water monitoring (e.g., rainfall, estimated runoff, etc.) was
conducted by Norman's personnel on approximately a daily basis, while chemical
analysis of surface water samples was conducted on approximately a weekly basis.
4.1 MEASUREMENT OF GROUNDWATER LEVELS
In order to assess the groundwater gradient at the time of sampling, water level
' measurements were made in each of the monitoring wells at the beginning of the
sampling round, prior to the purging and sampling of the wells. The depth-to-water was
measured in each well according to the protocol described in Appendix A, Section A-4.
The depth-to-water measurements were converted to relative groundwater elevations
with respect to mean sea level or a local benchmark by subtracting them from the
surveyed casing elevations.
The depth-to-water measurements and groundwater elevations for both the shallow and
deep monitoring wells at Norman's Nursery are summarized on Table 7.
4.2 COLLECTION OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
Kleinfelder collected groundwater samples from the shallow aquifer monitoring wells,
MW-2 and MW-5, during the fourth quarter on December 13, 2011. Kleinfelder also
collected a groundwater sample from each of the three deep monitoring wells (DP-1,
DP-2, and DP-3) during the quarterly event.
The wells were purged and sampled as described in Appendix A, SectionB A-4.2.
Copies of the monitoring well purging and sampling logs are included in App
endix 9
117226 E02/ST012R0693
Page 18 of 42 September 11, 2012
1
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
