DISCUSSION OF RESULTS The following discussion of results includes groundwater and surface water monitoring and findings presented in Sections 5.1 and 5.2, respectively. Groundwater findings include both a shallow perched aquifer and a deeper aquifer and analytical results. Surface water monitoring includes a summary of surface water flow and chemical analyses from streams, ponds and discharge points. Section 5.3 includes an overview of rainfall monitoring. 5.1 GROUNDWATER MONITORING Groundwater monitoring was conducted in the shallow perched groundwater zones and from the deeper groundwater zone noted beneath the site. 5.1.2 Shallow Perched Groundwater The two shallow groundwater monitoring wells (MW-2 and MW-5) located on the Norman's Nursery property were sampled during the fourth quarter monitoring event. Because of the lack of additional groundwater elevation data, groundwater elevation contours could not be drawn for the perched zone in the northwest corner of the site. During the sampling event, groundwater was found to be present at depths of 9.34 and 13.04 feet from the top of the casings in monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-5, respectively. Nitrate as N was detected in the groundwater samples collected from MW-2 (an upslope well located in the southeast corner of the nursery) and MW-5 (a downslope well located in the northwest corner of the nursery) at concentrations of 20 and 17 mg/I, respectively. Nitrate as N was also detected in each of the samples collected from the dewatering discharge during the quarter with an average concentration of 17.75 mg/l.
